I severely postponed my late game, to get most of researches and upgrades and notification spam was annoying. I understand that game meant to be played numerous times, so you can see different progress paths and approaches, but i usually want to see everything in one playtrough. Contacts map is less engaging, and covert operations while have very good buffs for your squad and lucrative rewards are also straighforward and dont have strategic feeling behind it. My main dissapointment from the game comes from unexpected angle, when i started playing XCOM:Enemy Within i wanted tactical rpgs, but what i actually liked even more is underground facility management, i craved ending of every mission, to get back to my upgrades, researches and control of countries.Īvenger in XCOM2 is more streamlined and boring, most upgrades comes naturally, sometimes i didnt felt that i really made choice.

What i liked about this game, that every class was viable, i leveled each hero, class and even SPARK to colonel, plus trained more for extra ablities my main squad, and every build proved to be interesting and beneficial in combat. Add there some teleport shenanigans of Templar, mind control of PSI-operative and insane mobility of skirmisher and you can do so much more. You can wound a lot of enemies with your squad, so your ranger will kill them all in one big streak, killing each with sword indvidually.

You can hack giant robot as specialist and destroy roof, so enemies will fall down and will die. Fighting with Chosen is very cool idea, really interesting boss design for tactical RPGS, hero classes are aslo welcome, with proper training some of them can become unstoppanle killing machines.Ĭombo possibilities are enormous, you can have stealth Reaper who will drop claymore on group of enemies and then blow them off with grenadier blast to wipe them out. But its all pays off once you hit mid game and discover new stuff. Early game is very rough, you dont have trained soldiers, you miss a lot, you have thousand notifications, that aliens are coming, that strong leaders may appear soon, and you are not sure what to upgrade. Altough, i need to add i played with reduced Avatar progress, which i cant recommend enough, and i think is best for any beginners of the game. Since played XCOM:EW on Normal difficulty, i decided to spice things up, and played this game on Commander difficulty and because i avoided playing vanilla version and jumped straight into War of the Chosen, i was bombared with a lot mechanics. The stakes are high and transition to assembling new rookies who will become next XCOM finest are justifiable. Aliens captured Earth and evolved, so during first mission you encounter really creepy Sectoid (compared to XCOM:EW version) who can mind control - something that only elite sectoids could do previously. It have great twist to kick off events of XCOM1, both plotwise and in gameplay.

Its immaculate and engaging tactical rpg with many layers and possibilities. Well, general consensus and my friend reccomendations werent wrong. XCOM 2 for me was exception, i really wanted more alien action with shinier graphics, new mechanics and as advertised by many as one of the best tactical rpgs. Usually i try to avoid to play games in same genres, especially sequels to play in a row, because it can be a bit exhaustung playing next installment right way. I got deeply into tactical rpgs, and recently completed XCOM Enemy Within which left me very satisfied, i wrote about this in previous post.
